July Scripture Readings

Join me, as we begin our journey together at Courtland-Oakfield and East Nelson Churches, for a biblical journey. I am listing below the days of July with a scripture passage beside it. I am challenging you to join me in reading the listed passage for that day. I have chosen the Gospel of Luke, the Letter to Ephesians, and a single chapter letter, Philemon. 

Some versions of the Bible are broken into chapters. Read the full paragraphs, even if you end before or after the beginning of the next chapter. (A historical note: the verses and chapters weren’t there in the original manuscripts. They were added centuries later.)

There is no hidden agenda to the passages. Don’t try to figure out why I am asking you to read a particular passage. My interest is in the idea of the Church reading from the same page (chapter) together. If you stick with this, you will have read the whole Bible in about 3 years, one chapter a day. 

Some of it will give you knowledge. Some will give you inspiration. Most important is that we begin to discover some of the things we normally overlook in the Scripture. It is in addition to your normal devotional and prayer time.

Here is the important part about the reading. I want you to read the passage twice every morning, they are only one chapter long. The first time, read it to find out what is being said. The second time, pray for God to allow the passage to speak to you and then read it to see what God may be saying to you. 

I would also like you to read it again at the end of the day. At the end of the day, see how it has affected your day or given you some understanding about your daily relationship with God and your family, friends, and co-workers.
